Avid have just released a statement via their DUC forum with regards to the complications encountered wile rolling out new licenses for the release of Pro Tools 12.6. The details are as follows:
I have always been a big supporter of keeping system images through the Windows install process as well as before doing any updates. Windows system updates for example can occasionally go bad. Installing new software is always risky (ILOK...). Occasionally everything goes well but the new software is buggy or has a bug that you are not going to live with. Imaging is the easiest way to keep safety backups of your system.
In a previous post, I went over some of the details of Windows Data Collecting and Phone Home (Telemetry) features. In here I would like to go over some ways to stop or limit the data collecting and telemetry.
Windows 10 has been a full public release now for over a year. Its biggest complaints seem to be about its heavy handed security model and intrusiveness. Pro Tools gives you many options in the Tempo Operations Window. They can be a simple and constant tempo change or a linear change. Linear will ramp the tempo faster or slower in a perfect slope in a selected area. There are more complex options as well to choose from. There is a parabolic option for instance that will let you set the curve of your ramp faster or slower in tempo among other options that can be quite helpful. I cover some of these different methods and what they do.
Windows 10 no longer gives us the ability to turn off system updates. Here I have a way to turn off the automatic download of updates and quickly turn it back on when you are ready.
Trasher was created to assist Windows Pro Tools users in a variety of functions. To speed up the process of deleting Dae and Pro Tools prefs, along with the databases for purposes of troubleshooting were the original. More features have been added over time to help with or speed up other processes. Functions like opening Plugin Folders to move plugins or backing up Plugin Settings to move to other computers and drives, as well as backing up and restoring other functions which are common place procedures.
